This is a series of paintings based on the idea (first put forward by Paul Shepard) that the association between humans and animals has not only influenced our thoughts but has actually shaped our psychology, even our consciousness itself. As our consciousness has changed, so has our relationship with animals; perhaps the farther we stray from our roots the more lost we become.

They are painted with acrylics on panels 33 x 41 cm.

This is a series of paintings based on the Buddhist doctrine known as the “Law of Dependent Origination” which is concerned with the cause of suffering. This is represented as a cycle of twelve interdependent stages with each stage inevitably arising from the conditions created by the previous stage. The visual images I have used to represent these stages are taken from the Tibetan “Wheel of Life” mandala (the 12 panels arranged around the circumference of the mandala).
